This enchanting French Art Deco sculpture of a lady cuddling a baby goat is signed 'L Francois', by François Levallois (1882-1965).
François studied at l'Ecole de Beaux-Arts de Douai before progressing to the Ecole national superior de la Céramique at Sèvres. After graduating in 1902 he worked, sculpting and directing, at manufacturers including Manufacture de Sèvres, l'Amandoise, Sainte-Amande les-Eaux, Vallaurris and Sainte Radegonde.
There is no manufacturer's mark to this sculpture, but its deep proportions and high quality lead me to believe it is from the Sèvres factory.
In impeccable condition, and of an engaging subject, this would work well in many interiors, not just an Art Deco theme.
