French Art Deco Knife Rests, Glass Poodle 'YER Depose'

ChateauAntiques

  • Marked 'YER DEPOSE' to each one, this set of knife rests dates to c.1920, possible a little earlier—but so much in the French Art Deco style it is hard to imagine they were made very much earlier.

You'll see how the middle section of each poodle has been left crystal clear, in contrast to each end which has detailing in relief to represent the poodles' 'lion cut' styling.

Set on crisp white linen with sparking glasses and polished Art Deco silverware, you can imagine this set of 6 knife rests really setting off a well-laid table.

Not much is known about the 'YER' mark ("depose" meaning trademark), but I have had another version of these Art Deco poodle knife rests in frosted glass and I've also seen a squirrel version. I have never seen a full set of 6 before though—quite a find!
