French Art Deco Fawn Deer Bookends

ChateauAntiques

  • French Art Deco bookends, cold-painted spelter on marble.
  • Charming pair of young deer or fawn, playful and almost falling back on themselves with fun.
  • Engaging, inquisitive faces with a verdigris colour striking a good contrast off the black marble bases.
  • Good condition, a few minor misses to the finish adds to the charm.
  • c.1920, these sculptures are quite typical of France in the Art Deco period, in style, subject and material—but also rare, as I have never seen this study of fawn before, neither at Chateau Antiques nor in all my years of collecting or helping customers before.
