French Art Deco bookends, cold-painted spelter on marble.
Charming pair of young deer or fawn, playful and almost falling back on themselves with fun.
Engaging, inquisitive faces with a verdigris colour striking a good contrast off the black marble bases.
Good condition, a few minor misses to the finish adds to the charm.
c.1920, these sculptures are quite typical of France in the Art Deco period, in style, subject and material—but also rare, as I have never seen this study of fawn before, neither at Chateau Antiques nor in all my years of collecting or helping customers before.
