French Art Deco St Clement Lion sculpture

ChateauAntiques

  • Imposing in both size and subject, this green glaze screams St Clement, French Art Deco, 1920s.

Signed by the sculptor Savioli, numbered and bearing the best St Clement faience mark from the 1920s art deco period.

Lions and big cats in general are a favourite subject for french art deco sculptures.  Lions in particular thanks to the rising force of the Peugeot motors company in the 1920s.

The mark to the top of his head is a colour miss from before glazing, it is not damage.
