Beautifully styled French Art Deco knife rests or 'porte couteaux'. Often sold in singles or doubles, it’s an absolute pleasure to be able to offer a full matching set of six. Knife rests were most popular in France in the early 1900s.
In French dining culture, the cutlery is often retained between courses. The knife rests allow for this to happen without marking the table or tablecloth. This set date from the 1930s and come complete with their original silk-lined box.
With their big floppy ears and long short-legged bodies, as an owner of one I can say that these chromed versions are almost as cute and as much fun as a real one, and are certainly much less maintenance!
I’d really like to know that these will go to someone who will try and keep this set together; it’s so nice that they’ve not been split up so far.
