Louis Albert CARVIN French Art Deco Bookends 'Bears playing'

ChateauAntiques

  • Playfully posed and utterly charming, Louis Albert Carvin (L Carvin) cold-painted 'bear' bookends.

Best known for his studies of animals, most commonly dogs, L Carvin (1875-1951) put his talents to good use here, incorporating the poses of the bears into these very rare bookends.

A prolific sculptor in the French Art Deco period, these sculptures date from the 1920s or 1930s.

Sadly, but not catastrophically, the marble bases here have suffered some damage. I am happy to undertake having these replaced if you would like.

Last known sale of these bookends on the open market was an auction in London 2011: see the result (£1000/$1551) here.
