French Art Deco Scottie Dog Bookends

ChateauAntiques

Hand-carved in France c.1930, these beautifully sculpted bookends capture a time in France's history when styles were changing, new materials were being experimented with, and traditional methods were being adapted in order to keep up.

Such hand-carved wooden or treen items have been an part of French and European crafts for hundreds of years, and here we have those skills put to good use in the form of two Art Deco Scottish terriers. A prominent subject of the time, thanks to the cartoonist Pol Rab and his Ric et Rac stories, I especially like the bewildered gaze this pair have, possibly asking 'Hey, Chateau Antiques: where have the books gone?'

In authentic, unrestored condition as shown. Do you have some books for them to look at?
