Huge French Art Deco sculpture, a study of two deer in marble and cold-painted spelter.
Beautiful, isn't it?
I like the way the deer have an alert, cautious look to them and seem ready to take off at any moment. The piece has the feeling of captured motion.
The cast spelter (so typical of the French Art Deco period) has a great bronze patina.
A nice combination of different coloured marble to the plinth, and all bolted into place and filled with the original Plaster of Paris.
In good condition and, as far as I am aware, a unique group setting for these two deer, at a price which is far from being... too dear!! (Apologies to any non-English speakers, but I can assure you that that is a very funny joke.)
I currently have a pair of French Art Deco bookends also on sale that would make a nice compliment to this sculpture. They are on this website, unless recently sold.
